Featuring Tessa Laird and Tiffany Singh’s work:
After Steve Lovett’s lecture our class went to Papakura’s Art Gallery where we saw Tessa and Tiffany’s work on display as the “Double Rainbow”. It was told they had become fans of the famous YouTube video that was depicted by a man; Paul Vasquez a.k.a. hungrybear9562 who had saw this double rainbow near Yosemite National Park in the Northern-point of California that inspired Tessa and Tiffany to make their works in colours of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet. When looking at Tessa's work, you find her screen prints, plain and simple. I really like how they all stood out in their place in the rows of the rainbow colours. I started reading the handout that was at the gallery, I noticed that it had the same form as the rainbow which basically was apart of their display. Tessa and Tiffany had their work separate in the gallery, Tessa had both walls where there was light and on paper. You see many examples of her work, such as Kundalini, a series of work that looks so cool that a person is meditating energy in relaxation. December 21, 2012, a depiction of when the world is going to end, but most people don't believe in it. Where Tiffany had hers inside the back, of the dark room filled with rice on the shelves and in the corners of the room and on top were molds of wax painted colours of the rainbow. As you go around the room, its from right-left, red-violet in a rainbow shape form but rectangular shaped. She had flower pedals, the Virgin Mary and so on and interesting. I would have loved to visit the opening to trade in her work and move some of the molds around to make it colourful, it would have been fun.
Although I have many favorable colours, I choose Violet because it is the same colour as Lavenders which are my favourite flowers. I have many in my room to remind me of my mother. I have made many paintings with the colour Violet, or purple, pink... to that point of my colourfield. I also like this range of colour because it helps me feel relaxed and I have nail polish with pink and purple, any kind of that colour Violet, etc. I also have a purple pen which I use in my journal that I became obsessed with. I also have a jacket, which I call it my lucky jacket. It gives me good luck when I'm going out and it also makes me feel happy at course.

Thanks Burda!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that lavender colour makes you feel relaxed, because I heard the smell of lavender is also relaxing, and good for sleeping too, which is why people sometimes sleep with it under their pillow.
I enjoyed your description of our show, but I think that's what is was, more of a description than a discussion. Remember to think about context as well...spirituality, the psychedelic 60s, political posters, artworks which feature exchange... there are lots of different "angles" you could take here.
By the way, can you please email me when you fill in your other entries? Otherwise I won't know to check because they won't be the first one on the list...
Thanks!
